Getting Started

What is GamesTally?

GamesTally is a live event scoring platform built for team-based competitions. It powers real-time leaderboards on the big screen during corporate team-building events, classroom games, conference activities, and any event where teams compete and need their scores tracked live.

Who is GamesTally for?

Event managers, corporate event companies, team-building facilitators, educators (school teachers, university programme directors, training facilitators), conference organisers, and community event coordinators. Anyone running an event where teams need their scores tracked and displayed live.

Do I need to install anything?

No. GamesTally runs entirely in your web browser. Works on any laptop, tablet, or phone with internet access. No app downloads, no software installation.

What devices does GamesTally work on?

Any modern web browser on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPad, iPhone, Android tablet, Android phone. We recommend Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge — the latest version of any. The Live Presenter View is best displayed on a laptop or projector.

How long does it take to set up an event?

About 60 seconds. Add your teams (manually or by CSV import), pick your games, choose your scoring modes, and you're ready to go.

Can I add lots of teams at once?

Yes. The "Bulk Generate" option creates as many teams as you need with a chosen name prefix — e.g. enter 20 with prefix "Team" and you get Team 1 through Team 20 in one click. Rename them individually after if you want custom names. Dedicated CSV import is on the roadmap; bulk-generate covers the most common "I need 20 numbered teams now" case.

Do I need to train my staff to use GamesTally?

Probably not. The interface is designed so any event manager can pick it up in 5 minutes. If you have specific training needs, our help articles cover everything in step-by-step guides.

How is GamesTally different from using a spreadsheet?

Spreadsheets work fine for back-room calculations but they're not designed for live audience display. GamesTally gives you a fullscreen, projector-friendly leaderboard that updates automatically as you score — your audience sees changes in seconds. You also get specialised scoring modes (Position, Quantity, Multiplier, Win/Loss/Draw, Custom Bonus) that handle tie-breaks, ranking, and points automatically. With a spreadsheet you'd be re-doing those formulas every game.

What kinds of events is GamesTally best for?

Anywhere teams compete and someone needs to keep a live tally: - Corporate team-building days and offsites - School sports days, classroom games, university orientation week - Conference activities, breakout sessions, hackathons - Quiz nights, trivia events, pub competitions - Training workshops where you score participant exercises - Community events, fundraiser games, scout group competitions

Scoring Modes

What scoring modes does GamesTally support?

Six modes designed to cover any team-based scoring scenario: - Position Mode — rank teams 1st, 2nd, 3rd; auto-calculate points from rank - Quantity Mode — score by quantity (most/least), auto-rank and award points - Direct Points Mode — type the score directly - Multiplier Mode — quantity × multiplier = points - Win/Loss/Draw — three-button outcome scoring - Custom Bonus Mode — free-form bonus or penalty points

Can I mix scoring modes in one event?

Yes. Each game in your event can use a different scoring mode. So Game 1 can be Position Mode, Game 2 can be Quantity Mode, Game 3 can be Win/Loss/Draw, and so on.

How does Position Mode handle ties?

You choose per game between two rules: - Split Points (Averaged) — the default. Tied teams share the averaged points across the slots they occupy. Example, 8 teams with differential 10: two teams tied for 3rd each get (60 + 50) / 2 = 55 points. - Take Highest Position — every tied team gets the higher slot's full points. Same example: each tied team gets 60 points.

Either way, the next non-tied team takes position 5 (the slots are consumed). Set this on the game's edit page; Quantity Mode honours the same toggle.

Can I customise the points awarded per position?

Yes. In Position Mode, you set the "differential" — the points difference between consecutive positions. Differential 10 means 1st gets 80, 2nd gets 70, 3rd gets 60, etc. (for an 8-team event).

What's the difference between Quantity Mode and Direct Points Mode?

Quantity Mode auto-ranks teams by their quantity (e.g., most marbles collected) and awards points based on that rank. Direct Points Mode just records whatever number you type — no ranking. Use Quantity when you want fair point distribution; use Direct Points when you have your own scoring system.

Can I use negative scores?

Yes. Direct Points Mode and Custom Bonus Mode both support negative numbers, useful for penalties or rule violations.

Can I edit a score after I've saved it?

Yes, anytime. Just open the game, change the score, and save again. The leaderboard and Live Presenter View update automatically.

How do I score a quiz or trivia night?

Use Direct Points Mode for fastest entry — you type each team's correct-answer count and the leaderboard ranks them. If your quiz is round-based with different point values per round, use Multiplier Mode (correct answers × points-per-question). For knockout-style trivia, Win/Loss/Draw works well.

How do I score a relay race, treasure hunt, or physical activity?

Position Mode is usually right for races (rank by finish order). For treasure hunts where teams collect items, Quantity Mode auto-ranks by items found. For physical activities with judged scores, use Direct Points. You can mix all of these in one event.

Live Presenter View

What is Live Presenter View?

A fullscreen, projector-friendly leaderboard that updates in real time as you score. Designed for big screens at the back of an event hall, on a TV in a classroom, or projected at a conference.

How do I display the leaderboard on a projector?

From your event page, click "Go Live" — Presenter View opens in a new tab. Press F11 (or Cmd+Ctrl+F on Mac) for fullscreen. Cast or mirror the tab to your projector. Done.

Does the leaderboard update automatically?

Yes. Presenter View auto-refreshes every 5 seconds, so any score change you make appears within a few seconds on the big screen.

Can I show per-game scores breakdown on the projector?

Yes. Click "Show Breakdown" in Presenter View — per-game scores appear under each team name.

What if I have 20+ teams — do they all fit on one screen?

Use the "Auto-scroll" feature. The leaderboard slowly scrolls to show all teams cyclically. Audience won't miss anyone.

Can multiple people view the Presenter View?

Yes. The Presenter URL can be shared with anyone — viewers don't need a GamesTally account. They see the same live leaderboard. Useful for hybrid events, remote viewers, or having a backup screen.

Can I customise what the audience sees on the Presenter View?

On Pro and above, GamesTally branding is removed from the Presenter View. Full white-label customisation (custom logo, brand colours, event-specific branding) is available with the White Label plan — currently in a talk-to-us pilot while we finish the self-serve setup.

Can I display the leaderboard on a smart TV without a laptop?

Yes — any device with a modern web browser works. Open the Presenter URL on the TV's built-in browser, or cast from a phone/tablet. Some smart TVs have rough browsers; if yours does, a $30 Chromecast or Fire TV stick is the easiest path.

How many teams fit comfortably on the Presenter View at once?

About 8–12 teams display cleanly on a 1080p projector without scrolling. Beyond that, enable Auto-scroll to cycle through all teams. Pro supports up to 50 teams per event; White Label is unlimited.

Pricing & Billing

How much does GamesTally cost?

Free tier is $0 forever. Pro is $19.90/mo. Educator is $9.90/mo (50% off Pro, with verified school email). White Label is custom-priced by inquiry — email hello@gamestally.com.

Is there really a free tier?

Yes — the Free tier is genuinely useful and is forever free. You get all 6 scoring modes, Live Presenter View, and up to 3 active events with 6 teams per event. Plenty for trying GamesTally or running small one-off events.

What happens when I hit Free tier limits?

When you try to add a 7th team to an event, or create a 4th active event, you'll see a friendly upgrade prompt. Upgrade to Pro and limits lift instantly.

Can I switch plans?

Yes — upgrade or downgrade any time. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.

Do you offer annual billing?

Not yet — monthly only at launch. Annual plans are planned shortly after; we'll email customers when they go live. If you want annual specifically, reply to any GamesTally email and we'll prioritise it.

Can I get a refund?

Subscription fees are non-refundable except for verified service unavailability of 48+ hours, billing errors, or where required by law. Cancel anytime — you keep access until the end of your billing period.

How does the Educator discount work?

Sign up with a school email (.edu, .edu.sg, .ac.uk, .ac.nz, .edu.au, .school.* and more). Educator pricing is automatically applied. No application form required.

My school's email domain isn't recognised — what do I do?

Email hello@gamestally.com with your institution's name and the email domain. We add new domains within 1–2 business days.

Does Educator pricing apply forever?

As long as your school email remains active. We may periodically re-verify — if your school email no longer works, we'll switch you to standard Pro pricing with 30 days' notice.

Can I use Educator pricing for corporate training?

No. Educator pricing is for legitimate educational use only — schools, universities, government training programmes, accredited educational institutions. Misuse may result in transition to standard pricing.

Are prices in USD?

Yes. Your bank converts to your local currency at the prevailing exchange rate.

Do prices include taxes?

Prices are exclusive of taxes. Singapore GST may be added at checkout for Singapore customers. International customers are responsible for any local taxes.

What's the cheapest way to score a one-off corporate event?

Free tier covers it as long as you have 6 or fewer teams. If you're running a larger one-off (say a team-building day with 20 teams), upgrade to Pro for that month ($19.90) and cancel after — you keep access until your billing period ends, with no penalty.

Is GamesTally cheaper than alternatives?

For a single live event, yes — most comparable presenter/leaderboard tools charge per-event or quote-only. GamesTally is a flat monthly subscription regardless of how many events you run within your plan limits. Free tier means you can validate fit before paying anything.

White Label

What is White Label?

White Label lets you use GamesTally with your own branding instead of ours. Add your logo, choose your colours, and remove all GamesTally branding from the Presenter View. Designed for event companies who want to deliver scoring as part of their own service.

Who is White Label for?

Event companies, team-building facilitators, agencies, and consultants who run events for clients and want to present scoring as part of their own brand experience. Also great for schools, universities, and conferences with strong brand identity.

How much does White Label cost?

White Label is custom-priced by inquiry. Pricing depends on your client volume, branding needs, and support requirements. Email hello@gamestally.com and we'll get you a quote within 1 business day.

What do I get with White Label?

Everything in Pro, plus: - Unlimited events and teams - Custom logo upload - Custom brand colours - Custom subdomain (coming soon) - Unlimited admin seats (coming soon) - API access - Dedicated email support

Is White Label self-serve like Pro?

Not yet — White Label is currently a talk-to-us pilot while we finalise the self-serve onboarding for custom logos, multi-admin accounts, and API access. Email hello@gamestally.com and we'll get you set up manually. Self-serve checkout is planned shortly after public launch.

Can I add my own logo to the Presenter View?

Yes — with White Label, upload your logo (PNG or SVG) once and it appears across all your events. During the pilot phase we set it up for you; once self-serve ships you'll upload from your account dashboard.

Can I have multiple admin users?

Multi-admin is coming soon to every paid tier: - Pro and Educator: up to 3 admin seats per account. - White Label: unlimited admin seats.

Self-serve invitations roll out as part of the broader workspace work — not in the v1 launch. If you need multi-admin for a specific event before then, email hello@gamestally.com and we'll provision it manually.

How do I sign up for White Label?

Click "Talk to Us" on the pricing page or email hello@gamestally.com. We'll get you set up.

Live Events & Reliability

What if my internet drops during a live event?

We strongly recommend a backup connection (mobile hotspot or secondary WiFi) for any high-stakes event. Your scored data is auto-saved every time you save, so nothing is lost. If connection drops mid-update, your last saved state remains intact.

What if GamesTally goes down during my event?

GamesTally is hosted on Vercel's global edge network with high availability. We monitor uptime 24/7 and respond immediately to incidents. For mission-critical events, we recommend keeping a backup scoring method (paper, spreadsheet) just in case — same as you would with any digital tool.

Can I test before a live event?

Yes — we strongly recommend it. Set up your event in advance, test all scoring modes with sample data, run a Presenter View on your actual venue projector. We have a help article on "Pre-event testing checklist."

What's the maximum number of teams I can score?

Pro tier supports up to 50 teams per event. White Label is unlimited.

Can multiple people score at the same time?

Multi-user concurrent scoring is on our roadmap. For v1, we recommend one designated scorer per event to avoid conflicts.

How fast does the leaderboard update?

The Presenter View polls for updates every 5 seconds, so changes appear within a few seconds.

What internet speed do I need to run a live event?

Anything that loads a typical webpage is plenty — GamesTally is lightweight (the Presenter View transfers a few KB per refresh). 4G mobile data works fine as a backup. We recommend a wired or strong WiFi connection for the scoring laptop and a mobile hotspot ready as a backup.

Can I run an event with hundreds of attendees?

Yes — the audience just watches the Presenter View, which scales to any number of viewers (anyone with the URL can watch). The team limit is the scoring constraint, not the audience. 50 teams × 8 attendees per team = 400 people watching one leaderboard works fine.

Technical & Privacy

Where is my data stored?

In Singapore, on Supabase infrastructure. Sub-processors include Stripe (payments), Resend (email), Vercel (hosting), Cloudflare (DNS), and Sentry (error tracking). Full details in our Privacy Policy.

Can other event managers see my events?

No. GamesTally enforces strict tenant isolation at the database level — your events, teams, and scores are visible only to you and any admin users you invite (White Label only).

What happens to my data if I cancel?

You can export all your data (CSV, PDF) before cancellation. After cancellation, your data is retained for 30 days in case you reactivate. After 30 days, it's permanently deleted.

Is GamesTally GDPR compliant?

Yes. We comply with GDPR, UK GDPR, Singapore PDPA, and California CCPA. EU/UK customers have full data subject rights including access, deletion, portability, and restriction.

Do you sell my data?

No. We never sell personal data. Full details in our Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account?

From your account settings, click "Delete Account." Or email privacy@gamestally.com. Account deletion is irreversible after the 30-day grace period.

Support

How do I get help?

Email support@gamestally.com. Free tier: community support (we respond when we can, usually within 2–3 business days). Pro/Educator: priority email support (1 business day response). White Label: dedicated email support (faster response, named contact).

Do you offer phone or live chat support?

Not currently. We focus support on email and detailed help articles, which lets us provide thorough, well-thought-out answers. Live chat may come in future.

Where are the help articles?

At /help — covering setup, scoring modes, Presenter View, billing, troubleshooting, and more.

How do I report a bug?

Email support@gamestally.com with steps to reproduce the issue, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. Screenshots help.

How do I suggest a feature?

Email hello@gamestally.com with your idea. We read everything and prioritise based on customer demand.

Account & Security

How do I change my password?

Click "Forgot Password" on the login page, enter your email, and we'll send a reset link.

How do I change my email address?

From account settings → email. Verification required.

How do I enable two-factor authentication?

From your account → Security → Enable Two-Factor Authentication. We use TOTP (Time-Based One-Time Password), so you can use any authenticator app — Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, Bitwarden, Microsoft Authenticator. You also get a set of one-time recovery codes to download in case you lose your device — keep them safe (a password manager is the right place).

Can I share my account with my team?

At launch, every tier is single-user. Multi-admin is coming soon: up to 3 admin seats for Pro and Educator, unlimited for White Label. Until that ships, the simplest pattern is one shared account per team — don't share passwords (use a password manager); each admin gets their own login once the feature lands.

I forgot my password — what do I do?

Click "Forgot Password" on the login page. We'll send a reset link to your registered email.

Integrations & API

Does GamesTally have an API?

API access is included with the White Label plan. Documentation available on request.

Can I integrate GamesTally with my CRM / event platform?

Custom integrations are possible via the White Label API. Contact us at hello@gamestally.com to discuss.

Do you have webhooks?

Webhook support is on our roadmap for White Label customers.

Use Cases

Is GamesTally good for corporate team-building events?

It's what we built it for. Run a half-day or full-day event with 4–50 teams, mix scoring modes across stations (Position for races, Quantity for collection games, Multiplier for the timed challenge), display the leaderboard on the venue projector. End the day with the PDF event summary as a recap for HR. Corporate event companies (and their clients) are GamesTally's most common customer.

Can teachers and lecturers use GamesTally in the classroom?

Yes — the Educator tier ($9.90/mo, auto-verified by school email) covers most teaching use cases. Common patterns: class quiz competitions, team-based vocabulary or maths challenges, end-of-term review games, university orientation week activities, training-cohort gamification. The Free tier (3 events / 6 teams) handles smaller classes for $0.

Can I use GamesTally for a conference or hackathon?

Yes. Hackathon judges score teams across criteria (Multiplier Mode for weighted rubrics), conference attendees see the live leaderboard between sessions, breakout-room facilitators use a shared scoring laptop. Public Presenter URLs let remote/hybrid attendees follow scores in real time without an account.

Can I use GamesTally for a wedding game, family reunion, or community event?

Absolutely. Free tier covers most family-scale events. Add 4–6 teams, pick simple scoring (Direct Points or Quantity), and put the Presenter URL on whatever screen the venue has. No setup fees, no commitment.

Can event companies and team-building facilitators use GamesTally with their clients?

Yes — that's the White Label use case. Brand the Presenter View with your own logo and colours; clients see your brand on the screen, not GamesTally's. Currently a talk-to-us pilot while self-serve onboarding is finalised. Email hello@gamestally.com.

Can I use GamesTally for training programmes or workshops?

Yes — common with corporate L&D and government training facilitators. Score participants on exercises through the day, show the rolling leaderboard between modules to keep engagement high, finish with a PDF summary as part of the training pack.

Can I use GamesTally for a sports day or fitness event?

Yes. Position Mode handles race-style finish-order scoring; Quantity Mode handles "how many push-ups in 60 seconds"-style challenges; Direct Points handles judged events (gymnastics-style). Mix as needed across one event. Pro tier (50 teams) covers most school sports days.

Still stuck? Email hello@gamestally.com and we'll get back to you within 1 business day.
