Getting Started With GamesTally

GamesTally turns your team-based events into clear, exciting, live-scored experiences. This guide walks you through setting up your first event in under 10 minutes.

Step 1: Create Your Account

  1. Go to gamestally.com and click Start Free
  2. Enter your email and create a password
  3. Check your inbox for a verification link
  4. Click the link — you're in

Your account starts on the Free plan: 3 active events, 6 teams per event, and all 6 scoring modes.

Step 2: Create Your First Event

  1. From the Dashboard, click Create Event
  2. Enter:
    • Event Name— e.g. "Q4 Team Building Day"
    • Date (today, or any future date — optional)
    • Score Label— defaults to "pts". Change to "marbles", "$", or whatever fits your event.
  3. Click Create Event

You're taken inside your event. From here, everything for this event is one click away.

Step 3: Add Your Teams

  1. Click Edit Event
  2. In the Teams section:
    • Click Bulk Generate to add teams numbered 1, 2, 3 etc., or
    • Click Add Teamto add and name them individually (e.g. "The Sharks", "Red Crew")
  3. Rename teams inline by editing the name field and clicking Save

Step 4: Add Your Games

  1. In the Games section, click Add Game
  2. Give the game a name (e.g. "Marble Race")
  3. Choose a scoring mode (see All 6 Scoring Modes Explained)
  4. Configure mode-specific settings (e.g. differential, multiplier)
  5. Save
  6. Repeat for each game in your event

You can reorder games by clicking the arrow buttons.

Step 5: Score The Games

  1. From inside the event, click Score Games
  2. Pick a game from the pills at the top
  3. Enter scores for each team — the input changes based on the scoring mode
  4. Click Save Results (or press ⌘S / Ctrl+S)
  5. You'll see a "Saved" toast — your scores are stored
  6. Move to the next game and repeat

Step 6: Show The Live Leaderboard

  1. From inside the event, click Go Live
  2. A new tab opens with the Live Presenter View
  3. Press F11 (or Cmd+Ctrl+F on Mac) for fullscreen
  4. Cast or mirror this tab to your projector or TV
  5. As you score in another tab, the leaderboard updates automatically every 5 seconds

Choosing The Right Scoring Mode

Quick guide:

  • Position Mode — when you want to rank teams 1st, 2nd, 3rd and award points based on position
  • Quantity Mode — when teams collect or measure something (most marbles, fastest time)
  • Direct Points Mode — when you have your own scoring system and just want to type the score
  • Multiplier Mode — when you want quantity × multiplier (e.g. quality × volume)
  • Win/Loss/Draw — for tournament-style activities with clear win/loss outcomes
  • Custom Bonus Mode — for bonus points, penalties, or special awards
